A track consultancy operating throughout the UK, we offer our rail clients engineering support and expertise throughout the full life cycle of their projects, regardless of size.

Thanks to the recent award of a number of exciting contracts from some of the leading names in rail, we’re looking to recruit two engineers to compliment our existing team. A predominantly site-based role (nationwide), successful applicants will need to work from our York office from time to time.

Essential qualities

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literature with good understanding and experience of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc.)
  • Working knowledge and good understanding of track engineering, surveying, setting out and track monitoring
  • Understanding of all relevant industry standards, laws and legislation
  • PTS, ICI, Track Induction
  • Educated to ONC level (or working towards)

Desirable qualities

  • Level 1 – 2 stressing ticket
  • Level 1 – 4 hand-back ticket
  • Level 3 stressing ticket
  • Experience in technical aspects of track maintenance
  • HNC qualification in relevant subject (i.e. engineering, management, business etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in relevant subject. (i.e. engineering, management, business etc.)
  • Membership of a professional institute (ICE, PWI etc.)

Duties and responsibilities include

  • Support engineering shifts, deputising for the Senior Engineer when required
  • Setting up and coordinating the site elements associated with track monitoring
  • Installation of datum and geometry plates
  • Mentor trainee engineers
  • Carry out setting out and surveying works under instruction from Principal Engineer
  • Engineering mainline/depot tamping and excavations
  • Conduct and record track inspections
  • Building and installing S&C and plain line panels
  • Control track installation
  • Work under the operational management of the principal contractor and/or the client as needed
  • Adhere to all company and industry standards

Thanks to great successes with recent tenders and a substantial bank of future work, SEP Rail Design is looking to recruit an experienced Permanent Way Design Engineer to boost its existing team.

Under the guidance of the SEP Design Director the successful candidate should be capable of undertaking P Way 3D alignment designs through GRIP stages 1 – 8.

The P Way Design Engineer will be required to produce and to assist in the production of P Way alignment designs, drawings, design reports and associated documentation and will be responsible for checking designs produced by others and to represent the Discipline Lead at design development and review meetings and workshops.

Required

  • BRT user
  • MicroStation or AutoCAD user
  • Railway track design experience, minimum 2 years
  • Knowledge of other industry specific software packages such as Clear Route, ProjectWise, SD Calculator
  • Good communication and team working skills
  • Ability to produce CAD Drawings
  • Ability to aid in the production of technical reports

Preferred

  • Degree in a Engineering Discipline, e.g – Civil, Mechanical or Railway Engineering
  • Membership with a Professional Engineering Organisation or working towards membership
  • Knowledge of Open Rail software
  • Understanding of multi-discipline railway design interfaces
  • PTS or similar
