We are seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist to join our growing team.

SEP Ecology is recognised as a leading provider of ecological consultancy services throughout the United Kingdom. We provide specialised ecological support across various sectors, in close collaboration with the SEP Rail Group.

As Senior Ecologist, you will take the lead on key ecological projects, focusing on mitigation, licensing and conservation for protected species such as badgers and hazel dormice.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of mitigation strategies, particularly for protected species.
  • Provide technical input on emergency ecological response projects, with a focus on rail-related emergencies such as landslips.
  • Manage ecological field surveys and prepare reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, and license applications.
  • Oversee the development of biodiversity strategies and help shape SEP Ecology’s approach to new ecological regulations and technologies.
  • Mentor and manage junior team members, ensuring the continued professional development of your team.

Requirements:

  • A degree in ecology or a related field, with 2+ years of experience in ecological consultancy.
  • Experience with protected species mitigation, including badgers and hazel dormice.
  • A CIEEM membership (Associate or Full), along with relevant protected species survey licenses.
  • Strong knowledge of UK legislation and ecological survey methodologies, as well as GIS skills.
  • Ability to author comprehensive Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs).
  • Proven track record in project management and the successful delivery of complex projects.
  • You will need a full UK driving license. Successful applicant will be provided with a company vehicle to get to site.
